Connor and Ali - Couples Portraits - The Biltmore House

While videography is my favorite form of creative expression, I never pass up the opportunity to take photos, especially portraits because they allow me to capture people being their true selves. So when Connor and his girlfriend Ali asked me to do a couples shoot for them I was excited to flex my photography skills a little bit and gain some more experience with portrait photography.

Now here in North Carolina we are starting to hit the end of fall and roll into winter so we wanted to take advantage of the little bit of fall we had left and capture some beautiful portraits with the autumn colors in the background. We also wanted to shoot at a beautiful location so where else but the Biltmore Estate. The Biltmore House is such a beautiful piece of architecture right here in the backyard of Asheville so Connor, Ali and I planned to shoot on the grounds of this enormous mansion. Luckily the day we shot was sunny with a little bit of an overcast. This gave us some natural diffusion so the photos were not blown out by the sun. We took some photos towards the end of the front lawn, the house as the background and putting Connor and Ali front and center with their smiling faces.

Shooting portraits is so fun to me because you really have to communicate with your models and get them to express happiness or smile without saying “Smile for the camera!”. Luckily, Conner and Ali had no problem being in front of the camera and we walked around the grounds of the house and got multiple shots of them in the front as well as some shots in the side garden. My favorite shots were the ones we had under the trees on the walkway located just off to the side of the house. The sun peaked out, hit the leaves and added a golden glow to the photos and it just made the portraits look straight out of a magazine. We ended the shoot with some separate solo headshots with the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background and I think these shots capped off an amazing shoot. Thanks again to Connor and Ali for reaching out and allowing me to take their portraits!
